Safeguarding Policy

Tiny Tots Day Nursery’s Safeguarding Policy sets out how the nursery protects every child’s welfare, what families can expect from staff, and the standards all adults must follow to keep children safe on site and online. Tiny Tots Safeguarding Policy 2025-2026
Purpose and ethos
This policy explains the nursery’s core duty to prevent harm, respond quickly to concerns, and create a safe, nurturing environment where children feel listened to and supported. It highlights a child‑centred ethos, anti‑discriminatory practice, and the commitment to work in partnership with parents, carers, and external agencies whenever safeguarding issues arise.
What the policy covers
In this policy, you will find clear information on the laws and guidance the nursery follows, definitions of safeguarding and abuse, and how concerns are recognised, recorded, and shared. The document outlines procedures for issues such as child protection referrals, Early Help, online safety, harmful sexual behaviour, radicalisation risks, attendance concerns, and specific risks like FGM or bruising in non‑mobile babies.
Roles, training and safer practice
The policy sets out the responsibilities of the Owner, Setting Manager, Designated Safeguarding Lead, deputies, staff, and volunteers, including how they are trained, supervised, and supported to carry out safeguarding duties. It also explains safer recruitment checks, staff conduct expectations, low‑level concern reporting, whistleblowing routes, supervision ratios, safer sleep, and strict rules around mobile phones, photography, and technology use in the nursery.
Support for individual needs and multi‑agency work
Families can expect additional safeguards for children with special educational needs, disabilities, health conditions, or a social worker, with clear reference to the SENCO role and tailored support. The policy describes how records are kept and shared, how the nursery contributes to child protection conferences and multi‑agency plans, and how Ofsted and the local authority are notified of significant safeguarding events.
